UK wide surveying programme for PJ Carey

SAINSBURY’S BENEFIT FROM UTILITY SURVEYING AND MAPPING SERVICES

Project Background

Central Alliance has worked with PJ Carey on a number of their projects involving surveying and have been impressed with our overall service. Recently they asked Central Alliance to carry out a programme of work for Sainbury’s all over the UK. More than 35 Sainsbury’s ‘Click & Collect’ sites have already benefited from full utility detection surveys and mapping services from Central Alliance with further stores programmed in for 2016/17.

Project Scope

This pre-construction phase work is particularly important to the client, considering the potentially damaging consequences to any disruption to the utility services of a Sainsbury’s superstore! Much of the work undertaken was out of usual store opening hours in order to try and minimise disruption.  Central Alliance carried out underground utility surveys to map the location, depth and alignment of all buried services in order to try and establish the location of the following:

• Gas, water, electric and telecommunication services
• Non-metallic services, e.g. plastic drainage pipes
• Voids, tunnels, cellars and foundations
• Disturbed and/or saturated soil
• Other potential hazards or obstructions

Deliverables

• Utility Site Markout
• Utility Detection
• Utility Mapping
• CAD Services

Benefits

Our Utility Mapping was key to the client who needed to undertake excavation works on some sites and used the site plans as part of the pre-construction design works. Tree roots were successfully identified at one site which influenced the design , saving the client time and money.
